Beauty in Hearing is organized to enhance the lives of individuals with hearing loss and their family by empowering the individual(s) with emotional support and services that can assist in a more productive and fulfilling life.
About Beauty in Hearing
Welcome to Beauty in Hearing, a nonprofit organization dedicated to improving the lives of individuals with cochlear implants. We understand that cochlear implant accessories, such as sound processors, batteries, television streamers, mini mics, phone clips, Aqua kits, and backup processors, can be vital for a fulfilling life. Unfortunately, some insurance plans do not cover these essential items, leaving many individuals without the means to access them.
Our Mission:
At Beauty in Hearing, our mission is to provide these imperative cochlear implant accessories to those in need, empowering them to feel connected and confident in their daily lives. We believe that every individual, regardless of their hearing ability, should have the tools they need to communicate effectively, learn, work, and participate fully in society.
Why Your Support Matters:
Education: Without the right tools, students with cochlear implants may not have the same access to information as their peers, limiting their educational opportunities.
Professional Life: Professionals may struggle to provide their best when they cannot hear everything said in meetings or talk on the phone effectively. Cochlear implant accessories can level the playing field in the workplace.
Everyday Life: Everyday situations, such as a mother needing a backup battery during a long day out, can become daunting without the necessary accessories. We aim to alleviate these challenges.
How You Can Help:
You can make a difference in someone's life by supporting Beauty in Hearing. We rely on financial donations to provide these vital cochlear implant accessories to those in need. We also welcome donations from individuals who have upgraded to a different sound processor model and no longer require their previous accessories. Your contributions directly impact the lives of those seeking a better hearing experience and improved quality of life.
Together, we can ensure that no one is left behind due to financial constraints.
If you're ready to make a positive impact and help us in our mission, we would be delighted to hear from you. Your support will enable us to empower individuals with cochlear implants and help them lead more connected and confident lives.

Laura's Journey:
Laura Ortega, the driving force behind Beauty in Hearing, embarked on her journey with profound progressive hearing loss at the young age of 24. At that time, she was a new mother, devoted wife, college graduate, and aspiring professional. The struggle to hear at the level necessary to be the best version of herself was a daily challenge.
At the age of 31, Laura's life took a transformative turn when she received a cochlear implant in her right ear. The world opened up to her as she began to rediscover the Beauty in Hearing. Among the first sounds she heard were the melodious chirping of crickets and the cheerful singing of birds. To this day, she relishes the simple pleasure of sitting outside in the early morning, sipping a cup of coffee while listening to these sounds.
Shortly after receiving her first cochlear implant, Laura received a life-altering diagnosis of Usher syndrome, a rare genetic disorder that combines hearing loss with vision impairment. This added complexity made her journey even more unique and challenging, but Laura's resilience only grew stronger and Beauty in Hearing was born.
Thanks to the marvel of technology and the gift of hearing, Laura achieved remarkable milestones. She earned her Master's Degree from Texas A&M San Antonio and is currently pursuing a second Master's degree from The University of Texas at San Antonio, with a focus on Nonprofit Management.
A Mother and More:
Laura is not just a leader in the hearing community; she's also a loving mother to three incredible children: Savannah, aged 13, Ariella, aged 12, and DJ, aged 6. Her loving partner, Danny Ortega, whom she describes as her teenage love and forever soulmate, has been a pillar of support throughout her journey.
When she's not immersed in the beautiful symphony of everyday life's sounds, Laura enjoys an active lifestyle. She is passionate about running, finds solace in snuggling with her Cavalier King Charles Spaniels, Harrison and William, indulges in the occasional shopping spree, and cherishes the serenity of horseback riding.
Join Laura on Her Journey:
Laura's story is one of resilience, transformation, and the profound impact of the gift of hearing. Through Beauty in Hearing, she aims to share this transformative experience with others and make a meaningful difference in the lives of those in need.
